About fascia and existential coaching

How does fascial knowledge makes it to the therapy scene?

The physical realm is an important part of our existence. Fascia is the most subtle yet potent aspect of the body and the Umwelt. Fascial integration, is an advanced way of integrating embodiment into the therapeutic practice. Fascia plays a crucial role in maintaining the body’s structural integrity and providing support, but it can become tight or restricted due to factors such as injury, poor posture, repetitive movements, or emotional stress or can show this affect through not being able to cope with life’s struggles and non-adaptive unhelpful patterns in the movement. When a repetitive thought or a trauma creates a distruption in the integration of the system, it results in compartments of territories in the body which refuse to use the same language of the rest. In time, these implicit notions can come forward as interruptions and signal something is wrong.

How does the existential themes come into play?

Existential philosopy is the philosophy of change and transition. In every transition the lines blur, the space becomes liminal and values transform.

Emotional stress well has a space in the body. But this space is not static as it can sound. It is resilient, it can bare a lot, and it is fluid. That space is fascia.

However, focusing on embodiment is not for every client, but for some, bringing body awareness into the practice can be very exploratory and reductionistic. Ultimately it can lead to a truth. Through this knowledge body informed practice becomes an implicit tool in the practice which is there to use when needed. It can also be useful to keep in mind that our attention does not wander around the same dimensions at all times. And for some of us it is a matter of character, we simply might not be needing it. For this, we always have a philosophical practice that ideally can cover all that we have.

There are many tools and practices we use throughout our coaching journey. Fascial exercises come into play when needed but fascial knowledge is always there to guide our embodied experience.

The Ease that Fascial Knowledge brings to the coaching room

Fascia informed practice can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including chronic pain, musculoskeletal disorders, sports injuries, postural imbalances, and even emotional trauma. By releasing tension in the fascia, this therapy can help alleviate pain, improve range of motion, enhance athletic performance, and promote overall well-being.

Hands Off Bodywork

The fascial framework and exercises which are introduced the multi-disciplinary trainings that I conduct mainly focus on prop aided fascial exercises routines. However the exercise does not make it to nor coaching or therapy room, but it still informs the perception of our lived experience. Fascial exercises are an eclectic concept of receptor stimulant exercises which are composed of different fascia exercise principles with an addition of different movement techniques. It is a way of bringing various movement professionals, coaches and therapists in one room.

Existential Philosophy

Existential philosophy is an essential part of this work. The beauty of existentialism is the inclusion of very simple and common themes and exploring to understand them and their relation to the life itself. Existentialism dives directly to the core. It does not exclude any unpleasantness or hardships in life. On the contrary the hardships, the moments of transendence and change are powerful places that we can cultivate change and meaning. Meaninglessness and pain are important signs that the time for a change has come. Existential philosophy helps us understand and relate with the challenging or powerful concepts of life which shatters our balance and opens up a new way of understanding by integrating more and more aspects of our existence by shedding the light of conciousness to ignored and self deceptive aspects of our being.

Polyvagal Aproach

Polyvagal approach is the regulatory part of the process. Also it is quite valuable as it is accesible to a wider range of users, is composed of quite simple yet effective techniques and very suitable for online practices as well. We can implement polyvagal approach in sitting arrangements as well as to an exercise.

Coaching and Psychotherapy Framework

Mind is a very important part of this experiencial work. A movement is not complete without the meaning. An action which is initiated by the body is not complete without the mind. Exitential themes through an exploratory coaching work is neccessary for compherending, reframing and getting through what we have and discovering our authentic philosophy of life.
